The focus of the project "Paper Play" was to experiment with the traditional paper-making technique, pushing it to its limits by using odd materials that aren't conventionally used in this process. I found myself drawn to this technique as a way to up-cycle materials and objects, always looking forward to the surprise that will be made from each material.
I experimented with making "paper" out of wood chips, fake grass, felt, cotton, discarded paper, a broken umbrella, cork wood, cotton and more. Towards the end, some of the pieces wouldn't be described as paper at all but I particularly loved the different textures that came from these playful experiments even though some failed and some succeeded.
Although this project is more of an experimentation than a finished project, it was a precursor for many different projects that came afterwards including "To Live" and "The Face of the Earth". It was the beginning of my love for this technique and it laid the foundations of my style as an artist, it brought me a lot of excitement, surprise and felt like a fresh start.
